Hi

Hi, I'm a new member. I love garage sales & thrift stores. I sell antiques and collectibles on eBay, and what I can't sell there, I re-garage sale! It's one big recycling circle, isn't it? The only bad thing about it, is my house gets filled with "junque," hence my username here.

I watched all 3 of your UTube videos, and I think you're both hysterical! and I LOVE your doggies, they're adorable! I thought it was funny how the one dog was very interested in the Mario jumper LOL

RE: Hi

Hi Junque House, welcome to the forum!

Glad to hear you like the (semi) weekly video updates. We have several subscribers and were featured on a radio station in Washington DC last week so are very excitied about doing more. We already have more ideas for the next few ones including one on how to pick the best sales to go to (useful this time of year since there can literally be hundreds to choose from) as well as games (video games and board games).

Take a look around at some of the other topic threads and if anything strikes your fancy we would love to hear your story or opinion on anything garage sale or thrift related, or, you can always start your own thread!

Mike

Hi Evelyn,
Thanks for the welcome (you too, Mike)! Gawd, I have so many "boy am I shocked" stories . . . I guess my best story is the 15 NWOT shirts by OILILY i found at a Salvation Army thrift. Apparently they were donated because of some ink variances. I picked out 15 good ones, and the first one sold on eBay for about $90, another was $116, then $86, $47, $50 etc . . . all together I made over $1000, and I only paid $1.50 for each one!! WOW. :0

RE: Hi

OH MAN!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard to snag every unspoiled Oilily item I can find but I have NEVER seen one.  Let alone one at a thrift store or yard sale.

Good Job!

I've never had an experience like that - no where near.  I have sold some books that have shocked me.

An Alcoholics Anonymous book sold for 90 something, another 3 book set from some collectible artist from the 20's sold for 90 (for all 3), and The Happy Hollisters Midnight Trolls w/DJ sold for 90 something.

The AA book I paid a dime, the 3 book set 1.50 for all 3 and 1.49 for the HH Midnight Trolls.

I like selling books because they are sooooo easy to ship.

I bought a Fenton Owl today that should sell between 10 and 20.  Here's hoping to find some OILILY tomorrow.

RE: Hi

WOW!!!!! Thats far above what we have made on a single item. Our best in terms of resale profit has been a diamond cameo ring (shown in our blog) that we bought for $1 (it was mixed in with a bunch of costume jewelry) and sold for $299. But I picked up some guitar effects processors and a MIDI controller that I bought last weekend for $130 that is currently at $227 and still has a ways to go, so it just might beat out the cameo ring in terms of total profit.

Good story!

RE: Hi

Cool.  I list items in lots. (book lots for example)  ANYWAY, I recently bought tons of painting booklets/book.  The book was $1 and the booklets were 10 cents each.

I was only thinking of 2 lots (tole painting booklets, regular painting booklets) and then the book alone.  But I do my research.  I found that 2 of my booklets should sell for about 5 bucks, 2 for 15+ and several for close to 10 bucks.  The remainder I will put in small lots.  Oh and the book should sell for about $10.

I love buying books because yard sales undervalue them.  I get kids books for .25 each - put them in a lot of 20 or so (series books) and usually they will sell for $1.00-$1.50 each.  Books are easy to package (no packing peanuts) and you can send it media mail (people like cheap shipping).

Occasionally you will find a title that gets $20 on its own.  Like Nora Roberts The Winning Hand.  This is a romance paperback that you can get for .50 - put the right title on it and wait a week. I've found and sold that book probably 8 times.

RE: Hi

Hi Guys,
Yes, books are certainly plentiful at the yard sales around here (Chicago area) .. . I only know of a few titles that sell well--and that old AA book is one of them! And I'm always looking for a 1970s kids book called "The Big Tidy-Up" by Nora Smarriage. This was my BFF's fav book as a child, and we discovered that it sells for an average of $90!!

I'll continue this thread on the Bargain Hunters Hangout forum. See ya there!
